Robert Aberdein (aka WOL)
British sculptor, born in 1963, trained at Norwich School of Art, BA Hons. Having enjoyed a successful career exhibiting his ceramic and bronze bird sculptures internationally, he has turned to painting – under the pseudonym Wol.
The separation is key to Wol’s artistic freedom as it allows him to express a far more radical side to his work. The abstracted, pared down forms offer an architectural take on these winged creatures that he has carefully studied for so many years. But far from static, they leap off the page with strength in their simplicity.
Whilst still exhibiting his sculptures under his given name, he leads a double life, yet both practices greatly enhance one another.
